Kathy Maringka and Gladys Roberts Inside front page

This month at Aboriginal Contemporary - Bronte, we are delighted to present the work of mother and daughter, Kathy Maringka and Gladys Roberts. Both artists live in Fregon, on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankuntjatjara Lands, in the far north of South Australia.

Kathy’s impressionistic interpretation of desert wildflowers expertly captures the magnificent and vibrant colours of the desert flora and highlights her superb brushwork and use of colour.

Inspiration for Glady's work comes from the surrounding traditional country of Fregon.  Gladys's use of strong colour and abstract imagery creates a contemporary interpretation of the vast, energetic and vibrant landscape. The bold use of colour is influenced by the intense blue of clear skies.
