Bugai lived much of her life nomadically in the Western Desert area, she paints about the country where she grew up and of the travel between sites of great cultural and ritual significance.  Her use of colour is bold and confident and there is a certainty of touch in her brushwork that makes her paintings compellingly beautiful.
