A Town Near Alice

April 15, 2012

Wow I hardly know where to begin in describing my last week in the Red Centre.  We covered over 2000km in 6 days, and feasted on some of the most beautiful landscapes i have ever seen, it sometimes felt that I was living in a painting.

One of the greatest privileges of owning Aboriginal Contemporary is the opportunity I have been given to visit some very remote and interesting places in Australia and to spend time with the artists that we represent in the shop. We were lucky enough to spend some time at Warlukurlangu Arts in Yuendumu which is 4 hours outside Alice Springs (the middle picture is the road you drive on - 4WD only!).  The community up there is full of complexity which will probably take many trips to begin to understand, one of the strongest feelings that I took with me was peoples attachment to country and family and in a wider world where these two things are constantly under threat is was a great reminder of what is important in life.

Yes I have bought back some amazing paintings,  I felt like a kid in a sweet shop!

I will post some of the work on the blog when it has been stretched and it will be online (www.thegalleryshop.com.au) once it is all photographed, but as always if you are passing the shop very worth while popping in.

Liddy Walker is the artist in the photo with me and she promised that the next big canvas she does we can have in the shop.
